Software Engineer, Design Systems

Location: Remote in the USA, or San Francisco, Washington, D.C., or New York City.

Salary: $130,000–$170,000/year plus bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Build accessible, reusable components for shared React Native and web libraries.
• Evolve design system foundations, including components, tokens, patterns, documentation, and tooling.
• Partner with designers, product engineers, and stakeholders to translate design intent into durable implementations.
• Identify accessibility gaps and strengthen inclusive interaction patterns across the product.
• Contribute to motion design, micro-interactions, transitions, Storybook examples, migration notes, and technical documentation.
• Support adoption of shared components, write tests, maintain implementation quality, and participate in code reviews.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong frontend fundamentals and experience with React, React Native, TypeScript, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on accessibility experience or demonstrated interest in keyboard behavior, screen readers, focus management, semantic structure, color contrast, and usable interaction patterns.
• Interest in design systems, component APIs, design tokens, documentation, adoption, consistency, and standardization.
• Ability to collaborate across design and engineering, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and work through ambiguity.
• Comfort contributing in a mid-level role focused on craft, collaboration, accessibility, and high-leverage systems work.

Nice to have

• Experience maintaining a design system, component library, or shared frontend platform.
• Experience with React Native, mobile accessibility, animation libraries, or cross-platform UI patterns.
• Familiarity with Storybook, Figma, design tokens, visual regression testing, or frontend testing tools.
• Experience supporting migrations or adoption of shared components across a large codebase.
