Mechanical Design Intern (Robotics)

Location: On-site in Carson, CA, with engineering collaboration at the Gardena, CA office; at least 30 hours per week beginning October 2026

What you will do

• Support engineers and designers in creating, modifying, and refining mechanical designs in SOLIDWORKS.
• Create 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models of mechanical components and systems.
• Assist with prototype assembly, testing, measurements, and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to review product designs and integrate hardware components.
• Document assembly processes and test procedures.
• Prototype hardware for manufacturability using 3D printing and CNC machines.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship or nationality, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylee status is required under U.S. export control regulations.
• Ongoing U.S. work authorization is required from the start of employment through the entire engagement.
• Availability for at least 30 hours per week on-site in Carson, California beginning October 2026.
• Currently pursuing or holding a BS in mechanical engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 1–2 years of SOLIDWORKS design experience and hands-on hardware/software experience.
• Experience with 3D solid modeling, analysis, 2D manufacturing drawings, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

• Rapid prototyping and BOM review experience.
• Knowledge of manual machining, CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and plastic 3D prototyping.
• Experience with industrial robots, 6-DOF robotic arms, industrial facilities, and equipment.
• Basic experience with ROS, Python, or C++.
