TL;DR
R&D Polymer Chemist (Semiconductor Materials): Developing polymer platforms, monomers, oligomers, and functional small molecules for advanced semiconductor packaging with an accent on polymer and organic synthesis, analytical characterization, and structure–function relationships. Focus on designing high-purity materials, guiding scale-up with process safety, generating IP, and transferring new materials into semiconductor products.

Location: On-site in Marlborough, Massachusetts, United States. Requires coordination across Americas/EMEA/APAC time zones, occasional meetings outside local business hours, and domestic/international travel of less than 10%.

Company

hirify.global develops materials and solutions for advanced electronics and high-tech industries, including semiconductor packaging materials and formulations.

What you will do

  • Design and execute polymer and organic synthesis of monomers, oligomers, functional small molecules, and semiconductor-grade materials.
  • Develop and qualify analytical methods for polymers and small molecules using GPC/SEC, NMR, LC/MS or MALDI, HPLC, FT-IR, thermal analysis, rheology, and contamination testing.
  • Tailor material platforms to thermal, electrical, interfacial, mechanical, lithography, and adhesive performance requirements.
  • Author technical reports and patents, assess scientific literature and patent landscapes, and support intellectual property and freedom-to-operate decisions.
  • Apply statistical reasoning and experimental rigor to guide development, scale-up, and product performance conclusions.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Applications, Manufacturing, Product Management, Quality, and Supply Chain, while mentoring junior scientists and engineers.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Polymer Science/Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field, plus 3+ years of industrial polymer and/or organic synthesis experience.
  • Experience tailoring material platforms for product performance and customer requirements, especially for lithography and adhesives.
  • Hands-on experience with polymer and chemical analytics, isolation and purification strategies, and control of residual monomers, solvents, catalysts, metals, ions, and particles.
  • Track record of IP generation or external publications and experience executing projects through Stage-Gate or Phase-Gate frameworks.
  • Excellent technical communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills, including flexibility for global time-zone coordination.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.

Nice to have

  • Experience with lithography, functional polymer coating, exposure tools, metrology, or structural adhesives.
  • Experience with DSC, TGA, TMA, DMA, rheology, DoE, SPC, JMP, or Minitab.
  • Experience producing semiconductor-grade chemicals with contamination control and quality systems.
  • Experience with air-, moisture-, or light-sensitive reactions and inert-atmosphere techniques.
  • People leadership or mentoring experience in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative and diverse R&D environment focused on advanced packaging technologies.
  • Cross-functional work with global colleagues and leading semiconductor manufacturing partners.
  • Comprehensive pay and benefits package.
  • Equal opportunity workplace with reasonable accommodation support for applicants.
