Deputy CISO (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote US

Base salary: $185,000–$327,000 per year, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Partner with the CISO to define and execute security strategy, roadmap, priorities, budget, and resourcing.
• Act as a deputy and escalation point for security leadership, including executive and board engagement when needed.
• Lead and mentor security engineers and architects while overseeing the wider security organization.
• Review security architecture across AWS cloud platforms, applications, APIs, and infrastructure.
• Lead threat modeling, architecture reviews, secure-by-design practices, and security integration into SDLC and CI/CD pipelines.
• Lead or oversee major incident response, technical root-cause analysis, remediation, and cross-functional risk communication.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in security engineering, security architecture, or technical security leadership with hands-on technical work.
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Deep hands-on expertise in AWS cloud security architecture and infrastructure as code.
• Strong experience with application security, secure software development, microservices, containers, APIs, and zero-trust architecture.
• Ability to evaluate system architecture and code, lead complex technical incident response, and build technical security teams.
• Strong communication skills for translating technical risk to executives and the board.

Nice to have

• Previous experience as a CISO, Deputy CISO, or Head of Security Engineering.
• CISSP certification.
• Experience with AI/ML security, OWASP LLM Top 10, MITRE ATLAS, or NIST AI RMF.
• Experience in regulated fintech, healthcare, or SaaS organizations at scale.
