Design Release Engineer - Bumper, Grille, Fascia, and Exterior Trim (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. Travel is required less than 25% of the time. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do

• Design, engineer, and release bumper, grille, fascia, and exterior trim subsystems and directed-buy components such as sensors, cameras, harnesses, and lamps.
• Lead or support cross-functional Product Development Teams involving design, studio, suppliers, manufacturing, validation, quality, purchasing, CAE, and dimensional engineering.
• Develop criteria, typical sections, packaging solutions, interface requirements, and Unigraphics-based math data in collaboration with the studio.
• Evaluate design alternatives and present technical studies and business cases while balancing cost, timing, mass, warranty, and other subsystem requirements.
• Prepare and maintain SORs, SOWs, ICDs, DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, drawings, and bills of materials, and support design and technical reviews.
• Support vehicle launch activities, benchmarking, technology development, continuous improvement, and rapid resolution of assembly-plant issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Design Release Engineer or in relevant industry work.
• Proficiency with NX or Teamcenter/Unigraphics.
• Experience executing vehicle development cycles from concept through production launch.
• Strong communication, program management, and physics-based problem-solving skills.
• Must be able to work on-site in Warren, Michigan at least three days per week and must not require GM immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Green Belt or Black Belt DFSS certification.
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, plastic injection molding, stamping, or metal forming.
• Fixture design and product validation experience.
• Experience with DFMEA and GD&T.
• Budget management experience.
