TL;DR
Mechanical Product Design Engineer II - Cab Mounting (L6) (Automotive/Cab Mounting): Designing and developing cab mounting systems and isolation components for heavy-duty vehicles with an accent on ride and handling, vehicle NVH, durability, and system-level validation. Focus on creating CAD designs and engineering documentation, solving technical issues through root cause analysis, and coordinating product validation, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and supplier activities.

Location: Portland, OR, US. Hybrid schedule with 4 days per week in-office and 1 day remote. Applicants must be able to work in or relocate to Portland; relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $86,000–$110,000 USD per year, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

  • Design and develop cab mounting systems and components, including rubber isolators, shocks, air springs, lateral control rods, castings, and sheet metal parts.
  • Define system-level requirements, component specifications, and vehicle validation plans for cab mounting.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD part designs, 2D part and assembly drawings, GD&T, packaging studies, installation diagrams, and product lifecycle documentation.
  • Analyze technical data, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues with product validation, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and supplier partners.
  • Support continuous improvement and complexity optimization focused on product quality, cost, durability, and system robustness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field, or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, root cause analysis, 8D, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated CAD expertise, such as NX or a similar tool.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States at the time of application; visa sponsorship and applications from existing visa holders are not accepted.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience in automotive, heavy-duty vehicles, or industrial equipment.
  • Experience with product development, testing, manufacturing, supplier collaboration, or cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience leading product improvement initiatives and a demonstrated ownership mindset.
