Staff AI Data Transformation Architect

Location: Hybrid role based out of the San Francisco, California office; US location required. Candidates residing in Alaska, Delaware, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Dakota, West Virginia, or Wisconsin are not considered.

Salary: $169,150–$233,000 annually, depending on US pay region, location, experience, qualifications, and market conditions, plus equity.

What you will do

• Define and own the company-wide Data AI enablement roadmap across data, product, engineering, science, and business functions.
• Build operating models, playbooks, evaluation frameworks, tooling, training, and metrics that scale AI adoption beyond isolated pilots.
• Own the enterprise AI tool estate, including Databricks data and access models, multi-agent workflows, token management, observability, and cost optimization.
• Design Databricks and AWS data architectures for terabyte-to-petabyte-scale processing, machine-readable contracts, vector-based systems, RAG, and Agentic AI.
• Establish enterprise context capabilities including an ontology, semantic layer, knowledge graph, and context layer for LLM-powered reporting.
• Partner with Security, Privacy, Legal, AI Governance, data teams, and functional leaders to implement responsible AI guardrails and redesign workflows.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience scaling AI data solutions, products, or technology adoption into sustained organization-wide practice.
• Deep technical fluency in LLMs, enterprise data platforms, lakehouse architectures, and AI implementation patterns.
• Hands-on administration of an enterprise AI productivity tool, including user and group management and configuration troubleshooting.
• Practical experience with role-based access models and permissions across multiple domains or regions.
• Experience defining responsible AI guardrails with Security, Privacy, and Legal in regulated or health-sensitive environments.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment across business and R&D teams without formal authority.

Nice to have

• Databricks Administrator or Data Engineer certification and experience with data mesh principles.
• Experience with MLflow, Feature Store, Model Serving, MLOps, Vertex AI, dbt, or Lakehouse Federation.
• Cloud and AI token FinOps experience, including cost allocation, budget alerts, and storage optimization.
• Python, shell, or configuration-as-code automation experience.
• Background in health tech, consumer health, wearables, or another regulated industry.
