Airborne Sensor Operator - Land

Location: Rapid City, South Dakota, United States; field deployment and extended time in aircraft are required.

What you will do

• Operate computer-managed flight navigation systems, GPS geodetic base stations, LiDAR sensors, and digital cameras during aerial data acquisition missions.
• Set up ground-based GPS stations, download and ship mission data and film, and prepare post-mission flight logs and reports.
• Perform initial field quality assessments against client specifications and coordinate with the Senior Flight Operations Supervisor when re-flights are required.
• Generate and review flight plans and assist the Aerial Survey Pilot in evaluating site conditions and data-collection procedures.
• Use industry and proprietary software for in-office data processing and quality control, and update quality management procedures when assigned.
• Follow company, equipment, industry, FAA, QHSSE, and client requirements while prioritizing quality, health, safety, security, and environmental protection.

Requirements

• Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
• At least 1 year of aerial mapping or sensor operation experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel.
• Fundamental computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to remain in an aircraft for extended periods and work in enclosed spaces with changing comfort, vibration, noise, and temperature conditions.
• Ability to read and understand maps and efficiently use GPS receivers, computers, and other accepted tools of the trade.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in earth sciences or a technology specialty.
• Prior aerial mapping or sensor operation experience.
