Principal Software Engineering - Test System Modernization (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid, with attendance at the Markham or Oshawa office at least three times per week. The role is based in Canada.

What you will do

• Lead the modernization of a large-scale embedded software test system across multiple teams.
• Define architecture and roadmaps for test execution, configuration and variation management, traceability, quality gates, regression selection, and results reporting.
• Build standardized, fully automated, headless testing across virtual and physical environments to support multiple full-suite test runs per day.
• Establish change-impact analysis and risk-based regression strategies using Gears, Pure Variants, or equivalent tools.
• Standardize test-result schemas, metadata, diagnostics, and artifacts, enabling analytics and reporting through Databricks.
• Develop APIs and integrations for test management, issue tracking, failure triage, diagnostics, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment workflows.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically 10+ to 15+ years of experience validating software systems, including architecture leadership across organizations.
• Deep knowledge of real-time software architecture and experience shipping high-quality safety-critical products.
• Experience with large-scale CI/CD, embedded test automation, build-to-test pipelines, variation management, configuration comparison, and risk-based regression testing.
• Proficiency with embedded systems, Linux, Git, Python, Bash, Robot Framework, containers, infrastructure as code, Databricks, analytics, data mining, and API development.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in computer science, software engineering, machine learning, AI, or a related field.
• Experience with embedded software, automotive software, systems engineering, or safety-related toolchains.
• Experience building AI assistants, coding agents, knowledge systems, vector search, ranking, workflow orchestration, or code intelligence platforms.
• Experience evaluating AI quality in production using measurable outcomes such as acceptance rate, precision, recall, hallucination reduction, or workflow completion rate.
