Engineering Manager, Payments (Fintech)

Location: Austin, Texas, or remote within the United States. Physical offices are also located in San Francisco, California, and Concord, New Hampshire.

What you will do

• Lead and build the Payments engineering team as a hands-on player/coach.
• Design, build, and maintain systems for ACH and wire transfers, including origination, settlement, reconciliation, and exception handling.
• Develop payment-processing pipelines integrating with banking partners, payment rails, and financial APIs.
• Implement wire-fraud prevention, transaction verification, and anomaly-detection controls with Security and Compliance.
• Improve frontend and backend applications supporting escrow accounting and closing-day money movement.
• Own payment architecture covering data integrity, idempotency, retries, failure handling, audit logging, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of full-stack web development experience and 2+ years managing a payments engineering team.
• Experience owning complex, high-liability payment or money-movement systems in production.
• Strong understanding of transactional integrity, idempotency, and failure-mode design in financial systems.
• Experience making architectural decisions for large, high-stakes projects and mentoring junior developers.
• Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, NodeJS, React or MeteorJS, MongoDB, microservices, Kubernetes, and AWS.
• Knowledge of banking APIs, payment rails, or compliance standards such as NACHA, OFAC screening, PCI, and SOC 2 is valuable.
