Controller

Location: Lansing, Michigan, United States; onsite role with limited local and occasional out-of-area travel

What you will do

• Establish and maintain financial controls, accounting processes, and compliance procedures.
• Oversee monthly close activities, journal entries, balance reviews, financial statements, and management reporting.
• Prepare cash projections, work-in-process reports, revenue and gross profit forecasts, and quarterly business unit analyses.
• Coordinate annual tax returns and audits with external CPA firms, and lead sales/use tax, workers’ compensation, CGL, and other audits.
• Supervise accounts payable processing, cost allocations, fixed asset records, and reporting for assigned companies.
• Mentor and develop accounting staff while supporting accurate and timely financial information.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• At least 10 years of experience in accounting and finance.
• Authorization to work for any employer in the United States is required.
• Strong accuracy, attention to detail, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and writing skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, maintain confidential information, and meet changing deadlines.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to provide occasional local, out-of-area, and overnight travel support.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in business administration with an accounting emphasis.
• Four years of experience managing accounting direct reports.
• Three years of Controller experience, preferably in construction.
• CPA certification or CCIFP designation.
