Director of Engineering, Fleet Applications (Robotics)

Location: Hybrid, based out of an office in Fremont, California; Salem, Oregon; or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. All roles are U.S.-based, and current authorization to work in the United States is required.

Salary: $236,000–$369,000 USD annually, plus eligible bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead delivery of Arc, a cloud SaaS platform for software distribution, device configuration, status monitoring, data lakehousing, and task workflow management.
• Manage multiple engineering teams building on-robot interfaces, web and mobile applications, cloud services, workflow orchestration, resource management, and fleet data aggregation.
• Define technical roadmaps, staffing plans, architecture decisions, technology choices, service boundaries, and API contracts.
• Set requirements for cloud platform dependencies, including SOC 2 readiness and multi-cell and single-tenant deployment architectures.
• Develop applications for remote customer issue diagnosis and resolution, plus mobile experiences for monitoring Digit robot fleets.
• Hire, level, manage performance, and support the growth of a distributed engineering organization.

Requirements

• Experience leading multiple engineering teams, including managers and senior individual contributors, toward product delivery on committed timelines.
• Experience transitioning products between bespoke or single-customer delivery and multi-tenant SaaS or isolated single-tenant enterprise deployments.
• Technical depth to review architecture proposals and evaluate languages, open-source software, and technology stacks.
• Experience with mature CI/CD pipelines and Release Engineering practices.
• Experience managing distributed teams of remote individual contributors.
• Strong partnership with Product and Technical Program Management counterparts.

Nice to have

• Experience in robotics, industrial automation, IIoT, fleet management, or telematics.
• Full-stack and cloud services breadth.
• SOC 2 or comparable compliance experience as an engineering leader.
• Experience with on-device or embedded user interfaces alongside web applications.
