TL;DR
Senior Mechanism Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and qualifying launch-vehicle mechanisms, including stage and fairing separation systems, actuators, and umbilical fluid and electrical systems, with an accent on CAD, requirements definition, manufacturing optimization, and integrated testing. Focus on driving mechanism design trades, resolving build and test optimizations, and delivering flight hardware documentation for the Spectrum Launch Vehicle.

What you will do

  • Design vehicle mechanisms from CAD and sizing through qualification and acceptance.
  • Define requirements and lead trade studies for stage separation, fairing separation, hydraulic, pneumatic, electro-mechanical, and umbilical systems.
  • Optimize manufacturing, mechanism performance, assembly, and test solutions.
  • Collaborate with static structures, propulsion, AGNC, AIT, and production teams.
  • Create, review, and release development and flight hardware drawings and design documentation.
  • Define test plans and procedures, support test execution, and complete post-processing and issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of full-cycle product design engineering experience, including CAD, assembly, and test execution.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, project planning, materials, surface treatments, and ISO GPS or ASME GD&T tolerancing.
  • Strong knowledge of kinematic synthesis, pneumatic and hydraulic actuation, electro-mechanical actuation, mechatronics, instrumentation, structural strength, stability, fatigue, and tribology.
  • Experience defining and executing test plans and procedures.
  • Proficient English skills are required; German is a plus.

Nice to have

  • Experience with launch-vehicle structures and fluid systems, complex part manufacturing, and aerospace assembly techniques.
  • Experience with NX, Teamcenter, Solidworks, Catia, Ansys, Altair HyperWorks, Nastran, ERP/MES, PLM, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with analytical structural sizing calculations.
  • Willingness to travel to launch sites and suppliers for hardware support.
