TL;DR
Computer Scientist - openMCT (Vue/Java): Directing software and systems engineering for integrated aerospace test and training environments with an accent on real-time telemetry, REST and WebSocket integration, and complex data visualization. Focus on designing Java backends and Vue frontends, debugging and testing full-stack systems, and maintaining stability for mission-critical test schedules.

Location: On-site at Edwards AFB, California, United States. Travel to remote company work locations may be required.

Salary: $135,000–$165,000 annually.

JT4 provides engineering and technical support for U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy test ranges through the Joint Range Technical Services Contract.

What you will do

  • Direct software and systems engineering services within a working group.
  • Design and develop modular Java software using enterprise frameworks such as Spring Boot.
  • Build REST APIs, WebSockets, and real-time data integrations between Java backends and Vue frontends.
  • Work with time-series and telemetry data to create complex visualizations.
  • Identify risks, provide technical guidance and mentorship, maintain documentation, and support system stability.
  • Debug and test frontend and backend applications while collaborating through Git-based workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an associated discipline with at least 4 years of related experience, or a master’s degree with at least 2 years of experience, or a PhD.
  • Expert proficiency in Java and enterprise frameworks, plus strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern web development.
  • Experience with REST APIs, WebSockets, real-time data integration, telemetry data, frontend and backend testing, and Git.
  • Knowledge of computer-based systems, systems engineering, software development lifecycles, and technical documentation.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • A valid state-issued driver’s license is required.

  • Knowledge of aerospace and mission-control telemetry concepts.
