Senior Software Engineer, System Orchestration (Quantum Computing)

What you will do

• Own device controllers end to end, including API design, implementation, rollout, and operational health.
• Build control-plane services that schedule and prioritize quantum programs, manage exclusive hardware access, stream results, and maintain execution history.
• Make services robust against instrument failures and improve lifecycle, concurrency, observability, health checking, and alerting.
• Bring devices onto the current framework and roll changes across the fleet without disrupting running experiments.
• Collaborate with runtime, systems, operations, and scientific teams.
• Improve code quality through reviews and support the development of less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience building stateful services that remain correct under failure and changing production systems safely.
• Strong systems engineering skills with Rust or another systems language, including async programming.
• Experience designing and operating networked services such as gRPC or REST, with error handling, observability, and failure-mode analysis.
• Experience using PostgreSQL or another relational database for schema design, live migrations, and transactions.
• Experience with state machines, timeouts, leases, retries, concurrency, schedulers, workflow engines, job queues, or event-driven systems.
• Access to export-controlled technology may require U.S. Person status or an applicable U.S. export-control license or exception.

Nice to have

• Production experience with containerized services, Kubernetes, distributed tracing, closed-loop systems, scientific computing, or research facilities.
