CFD Engineer - Multiphase/DEM

Location: Perth, Australia. The role includes global travel to customer sites in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania for up to 2–3 weeks per quarter.

What you will do

• Build complex multiphysics models covering geometry cleanup, meshing, simulation, post-processing, and experimental validation.
• Develop and validate DEM models for granular and particle-laden systems, including fluidised beds, pneumatic conveying, mills, aerosols, suspensions, and coating processes.
• Create parametric CAD models and automate simulation pipelines for design optimisation and design-of-experiments studies.
• Partner with customers to solve engineering problems using advanced simulation and AI, present findings, and recommend practical next steps.
• Generate simulation datasets for machine-learning and deep-learning surrogate models using smart sampling and design-space exploration.
• Use Flux cloud infrastructure and on-premise HPC resources to improve high-fidelity modelling performance, while mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to project leadership.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of post-graduate industry experience in a commercial, non-research environment.
• MEng, MSc, or PhD in mechanical, chemical, or process engineering.
• Strong expertise in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, multiphase CFD, particle-laden flows, fluidised beds, and coupled CFD-DEM workflows.
• Proficiency with Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or Fluent and DEM tools such as EDEM, Rocky, or LIGGGHTS.
• Experience with Python scripting, simulation automation, DoE, surrogate modelling, and design-space exploration.
• Ability to communicate technical results clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and work directly with customers.

Nice to have

• Experience with reacting flows and phase-change processes.
• Parametric CAD modelling with NX or CATIA.
• Ability to learn new programming languages quickly.
