Fiber Drawing Engineer (Optical Fibers)

Location: Erlangen, Germany; occasional business trips to hirify.global headquarters in the Netherlands may be required

What you will do

• Own parts of the end-to-end hollow-core and specialty fiber development and production process.
• Characterize raw materials, assemble preforms, draw fibers, qualify finished fibers, and coordinate shipping.
• Identify production problems, engineer solutions, implement improvements, and perform testing.
• Work in clean-room manufacturing facilities and advanced optical laboratories.
• Coordinate with suppliers, academic partners, fiber-drawing experts, and technology partners.
• Report production issues and improvement opportunities while supporting planning, documentation, and delivery of qualified fiber material.

Requirements

• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in materials science, fiber optics, or a related technical field.
• 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Hands-on experience manufacturing optical, specialty, or hollow-core fibers.
• Experience with process quality control, advanced troubleshooting, statistical or data analysis, and logistics.
• Knowledge of fiber processes, hollow-core photonic crystal fibers, and clean-room or high-tech facility work.
• Fluent spoken and written English is required; German is an advantage.

Nice to have

• First-line leadership experience.
• Basic mechanical design, software, and electronics experience for submodule integration.
• Experience with MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW.
• Interest in developing leadership and project-planning skills.
