Focus on coordinating multidisciplinary AIT activities, maintaining subsystem requirements, and managing supplier delivery for complex space-borne optical equipment.

What you will do

  • Define optical subsystem architectures and verification strategies for space-borne instruments across project phases B2, C, and D.
  • Serve as the main technical contact for optical-domain topics, supporting systems engineering across design, verification, risk, cost, and schedule.
  • Perform optical design and analysis, including optical layouts, tolerancing, stray-light analysis, and STOP budget allocation.
  • Coordinate optical subsystem engineering and assembly, integration, and testing with mechanical, thermal, electrical, detection-chain, and cleanliness teams.
  • Maintain optical subsystem requirements and verification plans, aligned with higher-level specifications.
  • Oversee subcontracted optical equipment procurement, data packages, test plans, and delivery performance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Physics or Optical Engineering.
  • Several years of experience in optical instrumentation or optical sensors, ideally for space applications.
  • Experience with optical layout, design, tolerance, STOP analysis, and optical allocations or budgets.
  • Proficiency with optical design software such as Code V, Zemax, or FRED, and programming languages such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Technical knowledge of mirrors, photonics, gratings, fibers, lasers, coatings, and space-equipment alignment and testing strategies.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is required. German knowledge is beneficial.
