Director of Climate Sciences

Location: New York, United States

Salary: $173,000–$225,000 per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Lead a team of scientists in architecting and implementing physical climate risk assessment models.
• Build physical climate risk models using AI numerical weather prediction, stochastic ensembles, earth observation foundation models, and physics-based methods.
• Develop scalable, maintainable, robust, and reproducible scientific modeling pipelines with data, cloud, and security teams.
• Establish standards, methodologies, and techniques for modeling physical risk and its changes due to climate change.
• Conduct validation studies and guide continuous model improvement.
• Coordinate requirements, timelines, deliveries, project progress, compute resources, and stakeholder communication across product, sales, and project management teams.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, oceanography, hydrology, physics, engineering, mathematics, or a related subject.
• At least 5 years of experience developing environmental products for client requirements, preferably probabilistic risk products or catastrophe model outputs.
• Programming experience in Python, R, C/C++, and/or Fortran.
• Experience with cloud-optimized geospatial formats such as Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF, GeoParquet, and related standards.
• Knowledge of CMIP outputs and shared socioeconomic pathways.
• Practical experience using AI tools such as Claude Code or Codex to write production scientific code and pipelines.
