Senior Bioinformatics Scientist (DNA Synthesis)

Location: USA - South San Francisco, California

Salary: $135,000–$173,000 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop computational methods and algorithms for DNA synthesis, sequence analysis, and protein characterization.
• Analyze NGS and other experimental datasets to identify biological patterns, variability, and unexpected outcomes.
• Apply statistical methods, machine learning, and predictive modeling to connect sequence and experimental features with product quality and performance.
• Build reproducible analysis pipelines with Nextflow and other scientific computing tools.
• Partner with experimental scientists to formulate hypotheses, design experiments, interpret results, and guide product and process development.
• Validate analytical approaches and communicate findings to scientific, engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• Ph.D. with 3+ years, Master's degree with 6+ years, or Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or a related field.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience analyzing biological or experimental data.
• Hands-on NGS analysis experience and a solid understanding of molecular biology.
• Experience developing and evaluating algorithms, statistical methods, or predictive models.
• Strong knowledge of statistics, experimental design, and scientific interpretation.
• Experience building reproducible workflows with Nextflow or a comparable tool, and collaborating with experimental scientists.

Nice to have

• Experience with protein data analysis, DNA synthesis, or sequence design.
• Experience applying machine learning to biological data with rigorous validation.
• Experience with high-throughput datasets, multimodal data integration, cloud computing, or scalable scientific workflows.
• Experience developing computational methods that inform experiments or improve products.
