Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA; four days a week in the office and Fridays from home for employees near an office

Base salary: $187,000–$259,000 USD per year, with potential bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate self-serve ETL/ELT frameworks for batch and streaming workloads.
• Own pipeline reliability, data quality SLAs, schema evolution, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
• Drive the data platform roadmap, evaluate build-versus-buy decisions, and define integration standards.
• Partner with Product Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Marketing on data contracts and new data domains.
• Architect data lineage, schema registry, access controls, and governance for regulated financial data.
• Participate in code and design reviews, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and join the on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building, shipping, and operating production data infrastructure at scale.
• Strong system design skills, including writing design documents, making architectural trade-offs, and delivering solutions.
• Deep proficiency in Python or Java/Kotlin, with strong testing, code quality, and maintainability practices.
• Production experience with a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift; workflow orchestration; Terraform; streaming technologies; and dbt.
• Experience building observability for data systems, including freshness monitoring, row-level quality checks, schema drift detection, and SLA dashboards.
• Experience in a regulated environment where data governance, access control, and audit trails are required.
