Senior Software Engineer, Data

Salary: $174,000–$220,000 USD base salary per year

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate APIs, SDKs, shared libraries, services, generated types, and validation tools for publishing and consuming trusted data.
• Improve event-driven data systems using Kafka, Avro, and schema registries, including delivery semantics, compatibility rules, and safe schema evolution.
• Build reverse ETL and data activation paths from warehouses or lakehouses into products and operational systems.
• Implement data classification, deletion, masking, access control, audit trails, lineage, and policy enforcement.
• Operate AWS platform services with infrastructure as code, observability, alerting, dashboards, runbooks, and on-call support.
• Partner with product engineering, analytics engineering, data science, security, compliance, and infrastructure teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend, platform, developer infrastructure, or data-intensive systems.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, plus experience with a statically typed language such as C#, Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript.
• Experience building APIs, SDKs, shared libraries, data contract systems, or event publishing frameworks used by other teams.
• Knowledge of schema design, versioning, validation, code generation, migrations, delivery guarantees, idempotency, retries, ordering, and dead-letter handling.
• Experience with Kafka or a comparable platform, a schema technology such as Avro, Protobuf, JSON Schema, or OpenAPI, and cloud operations with automated testing, continuous delivery, observability, infrastructure as code, and incident response.
• Familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks, or Iceberg is expected; regulated-environment experience with PHI or PII controls is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Experience building software in a regulated environment.
• Practical knowledge of access, deletion, de-identification, lineage, and auditing for PHI or PII.
