Thermofluids Engineer II (Spacecraft)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Salary: $119,543–$152,749 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Develop active thermal control systems for spacecraft vehicles and payloads.
• Build fluid network models that interface with vehicle-level thermal models.
• Define fluid-system hardware and operational requirements using analysis and testing.
• Support manufacturing and integration of thermal and fluid hardware onto vehicles.
• Collaborate with payload, mechanical, software, and propulsion disciplines.
• Characterize propulsion thermofluid performance and develop data-processing infrastructure for ground and flight systems.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 1 year of experience with thermofluids and/or propulsion systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of heat transfer and incompressible fluid mechanics fundamentals.
• Experience with 0D and 1D thermal or fluid networks and at least one modeling tool such as SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS, or GFSSP.
• Knowledge of thermomechanical hardware including heat exchangers, cold plates, vacuum chambers, pumps, valves, RTDs, and transducers.
• Hands-on thermal and TVAC testing experience, MATLAB or equivalent for data processing and automation, and strong technical communication skills.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of thermofluids or propulsion experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Master’s degree in engineering.
• Experience with Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, propulsion systems, and thruster characterization.
• Experience owning projects and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
