AI Engineer

Location: Full-time remote, project-based position in a distributed working environment.

What you will do

• Turn product requirements, prototypes, and technical designs into tested production software using AI coding and engineering tools.
• Build complete product capabilities across cloud infrastructure, backend services, APIs, data pipelines, web applications, and user interfaces.
• Design agentic systems that plan work, use tools, coordinate workflows, retain context, and automate repeatable tasks.
• Implement permissions, human approval points, evaluations, observability, failure handling, and cost and latency measurement for dependable AI systems.
• Own vertical product slices from design through deployment and support while collaborating with product leaders, domain experts, designers, and engineers.
• Evaluate models, prompting, retrieval, and tool-use approaches; improve reliability through testing, documentation, operational analysis, and support feedback.

Requirements

• Recently completed or soon-to-be-completed master's or doctoral degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, software engineering, data science, robotics, human-computer interaction, or a related technical field.
• Strong programming fundamentals and practical experience with Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, or another modern programming language.
• Working knowledge of APIs, databases, version control, testing, debugging, and cloud or distributed application concepts.
• Evidence of completing a working project from an ambiguous problem; academic, research, startup, open-source, and professional projects are accepted.
• Clear written and verbal communication, intellectual curiosity, and product judgment focused on usability, reliability, and support needs.
• Must successfully pass a drug and background check.

Nice to have

• Two to three years of relevant industry experience, although candidates with less experience and strong shipped work may be considered.
• Experience with large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, agent frameworks, tool calling, AI evaluations, or AI-assisted software development.
• Experience with major cloud platforms, infrastructure as code, serverless systems, containers, CI/CD, or production monitoring.
• Experience building modern web interfaces or working with UX, design systems, accessibility, and user research.
• Interest in privacy, security, responsible AI, and enterprise or government software.
