TL;DR
Rack Design Engineer (Data Center) - Memphis (AI): Designing and deploying high-density AI compute racks integrating structure, power, cooling, servers, switches, optics, and liquid-cooling systems with an accent on production-ready mechanical integration and manufacturing. Focus on resolving thermal, structural, power, and serviceability constraints, debugging prototypes and production builds, and taking rack designs from concept through qualified production and cluster deployment.
Location: Southaven, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The role requires work on factory and datacenter floors, extended hours and weekends as needed, and travel to manufacturing and datacenter sites.
Company
AI engineering organization developing training and inference compute systems and supporting infrastructure.
What you will do
Own the mechanical, structural, and integration design of high-density AI compute racks, chassis, frames, busbars, manifolds, and cable or fiber raceways.
Integrate compute, networking, power distribution, and liquid cooling into buildable, serviceable, high-yield rack architectures.
Design for in-house manufacturing, including fixtures, work instructions, inspection, first articles, and production ramp.
Resolve thermal, structural, power, optical, and networking constraints with cross-disciplinary engineering partners.
Take vendor and in-house parts from concept through qualification and production, maintaining CAD, BOMs, drawings, and build documentation.
Support prototype builds, production debugging, first-site cluster bring-up, and deployment of custom compute systems.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
At least 2 years of professional experience designing electromechanical hardware that was physically built and shipped; internship and project experience may count.
Ability to work with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX and produce released drawings suitable for shop and factory production.
Experience or knowledge in rack or chassis design, networking, interconnects, high-power distribution, liquid cooling, or cable and fiber integration.
Ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed, travel to manufacturing and datacenter sites, lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted, and work around active factory and datacenter hardware.
Nice to have
Experience owning dense electromechanical products through prototype and production, including AI, HPC, GPU, or OCP rack systems.
Experience with cold plates, manifolds, CDUs, quick disconnects, leak detection, coolant compatibility, busbars, PDUs, 48V, high-current three-phase power, grounding, and service safety.
Experience with MPO or OSFP cable and fiber routing, bend-radius limits, service loops, and optical or network integration.
Experience taking rack hardware from NPI to an in-house manufacturing line, including fixtures, cycle time, poka-yoke, rework loops, thermal analysis, or structural analysis.
Culture & Benefits
Hands-on, cross-disciplinary engineering environment focused on challenging compute infrastructure problems.
Flat organizational structure with direct contribution expected from all employees.
Work spans prototype and production floors, manufacturing lines, datacenters, and cluster deployments.
Strong communication, prioritization, initiative, and engineering ownership are expected.
