Director of Technology and AI

Location: Davis, California; Northern California preferred

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 base annually

What you will do

• Own the AI rollout across production, supply chain, customer service, marketing, sales, finance, and other business functions.
• Define and run enterprise AI architecture connecting Salesforce, Google Cloud, Shopify, Snowflake, and related systems.
• Establish AI security, governance, access controls, data privacy, human review, audit trails, and observability.
• Build and ship AI-enabled workflows and applications that improve productivity, decision quality, customer experience, revenue, or cost.
• Lead, mentor, and grow the development team while maintaining hands-on technical and product leadership.
• Manage AI investment intake, prioritization, build-versus-buy decisions, success metrics, and scale-or-stop reviews.

Requirements

• Production software engineering experience with a continued interest in hands-on building and shipping.
• Deep experience developing AI applications involving agents, MCP and tool use, automations, model selection, evaluation, retrieval, prompt and workflow design, and observability.
• Experience designing enterprise architecture, security, and governance for AI or data systems.
• Hands-on experience with platforms such as Salesforce, Google Cloud, Shopify, and a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake.
• Experience leading and mentoring developers, including junior engineers, through code review, pairing, standards, and stretch assignments.
• Ability to work with autonomy and ambiguity, move at startup speed, and maintain strong standards for security, data integrity, and quality.

Nice to have

• Experience identifying customer-facing AI opportunities across discovery, design, purchasing, fulfillment, and installation.
• Experience building AI applications rapidly with measurable production outcomes.
