Senior Software Engineer — Backend (Files Team)

Salary: $166,000–$225,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate the filesystem platform supporting tens of thousands of data, AI, and agentic workloads daily.
• Profile and optimize filesystem performance across the API layer, services, and Linux kernel.
• Partner with platform teams to design next-generation compute and storage architectures.
• Define how content is organized across Databricks using standardized filesystem primitives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of production-level experience with Java, Scala, C++, Go, Rust, or a similar language.
• 3+ years of experience developing large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or MicroVM technologies such as Firecracker, plus strong knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP internals.
• Experience with filesystems, FUSE, and object or blob storage such as S3, Azure Blob Storage, or GCS.
• Experience in systems performance engineering, high-scale content, storage, or file-sync products.
