Director of Engineering - Data Platforms (Azure Databricks)

Salary: $135,200–$236,600 per year, plus incentive eligibility

What you will do

• Define enterprise data platform strategy, architecture, and multi-year roadmaps across Azure Databricks, Microsoft SQL Server, and related Azure technologies.
• Lead platform engineering and administration teams delivering secure, reliable, scalable, observable, and high-performing data services.
• Own Azure Databricks platform engineering, including Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, MLflow, access controls, workload management, automation, monitoring, performance, and cost optimization.
• Establish Platform-as-a-Product practices, reusable engineering patterns, Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD automation, and self-service capabilities.
• Modernize enterprise data platforms and migrate suitable workloads to Azure and lakehouse architectures while improving resilience and disaster recovery.
• Manage governance, security, operational readiness, budgets, vendor relationships, FinOps practices, and the development of engineering leaders.

Requirements

• Must work from Edina, Minnesota, United States.
• Experience defining enterprise data platform strategy, architecture, governance, and roadmaps.
• Leadership experience managing platform engineering, administration, and technical teams.
• Experience with Azure Databricks, Microsoft SQL Server, Azure data technologies, and lakehouse architectures.
• Experience with platform security, data classification, lineage, auditing, access management, compliance, monitoring, incident management, and capacity planning.
• Experience managing technology investments, budgets, vendors, licensing, and operational costs.

Nice to have

• Experience evaluating emerging data, AI, and cloud technologies through proofs of concept.
• Experience partnering with Data Engineering and Data Science teams to deliver data products, machine learning, and AI capabilities.
• Experience standardizing and consolidating platforms to reduce technical complexity.
