Senior Software Java Engineer - Identity

Location: Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom; hybrid with 60% of the week at office locations or local sites and the remainder remote

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain high-performing, mission-critical authentication systems.
• Lead technical design for complex features and initiatives focused on scalability, resilience, security, and operational excellence.
• Partner with product managers and cross-functional teams to shape requirements and deliver business outcomes.
• Own production systems, lead incident resolution and root cause analysis, and improve reliability, security, and performance.
• Provide technical leadership across teams, mentor engineers, share knowledge, and contribute to recruitment and interviews.

Requirements

• Expert proficiency in at least one major programming language, preferably Java.
• Significant experience designing, building, and supporting large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, including SOLID and design patterns.
• Experience with DevOps practices, production support, incident resolution, and root cause analysis.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing engineering decisions across multiple teams.
• Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of identity and access management concepts, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
