Senior Software Engineer (Platform Engineering)

What you will do

• Design, build, test, and deploy production infrastructure for Astro, Observe, and IDE products.
• Own the systems and practices used to build and deploy code in a high-scale PaaS environment.
• Define production-system standards, technology choices, and platform architecture across products.
• Build the company’s platform and reliability practice, including incident management and operational improvements.
• Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation for systems and processes.
• Participate in periodic on-call rotations for owned services and deliver safe, reliable changes in production.

Requirements

• Strong experience in non-abstract systems design and implementation.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Golang, with in-depth Kubernetes experience; CKA or equivalent is expected.
• Experience with observability principles, including SLI/SLO definition and tracking.
• Experience with SaaS or PaaS products across multiple cloud providers, especially AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Experience with software development practices including code review, testing, CI/CD, version control, automation, and debugging.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, accurate scope estimation, stakeholder coordination, and a strong focus on reliability and ownership.

Nice to have

• Experience with CircleCI, Chronosphere, Prometheus, Splunk, Bazel, Istio, Playwright, Karpenter, and GitHub Actions.
• Experience with Apache Airflow.
