Founding Platform Engineer, Security (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York City; the company operates as an in-office organization.

Salary: $200,000–$400,000 annually, plus equity.

Decagon builds a conversational AI platform that enables enterprise brands to deliver customer experiences across voice, chat, email, SMS, and other channels.

What you will do

• Design and operate secure, multi-tenant infrastructure that isolates customer data and supports AI model serving.
• Build security golden paths, service templates, libraries, Terraform policies, and automation for secure service delivery.
• Own infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices, including reusable modules and policy-as-code.
• Expand alerting, detection, secrets management, IAM, automated remediation, observability, and incident-response platforms.
• Translate enterprise and compliance requirements, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR, into automated technical controls.
• Partner with Security, Infrastructure, and product engineering teams and participate in security on-call.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and operating production infrastructure, with security exposure or a strong interest in security engineering.
• Deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS, including compute, networking, IAM, and security services.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools, plus experience building developer-facing automation.
• Strong coding ability in Python, Go, TypeScript, or another systems language.
• Experience with secure container deployment, service mesh, Kubernetes security, observability, and incident response.
• Clear written communication and the ability to turn ambiguous requirements into reliable designs.

Nice to have

• Experience as an early or founding platform, infrastructure, or security engineer.
• Experience building internal platforms, paved-road deployment, self-service environments, or developer portals.
• Knowledge of software supply-chain security, provenance, secrets, least privilege, Semgrep, or CodeQL.
• Experience with detection and response data pipelines such as Kafka, Pulsar, Splunk, Panther, or RunReveal.
• Experience applying AI-assisted tools such as Cursor or Claude Code to improve engineering productivity.
