Refining and Petrochemical Process Optimization Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; travel to client sites is required, up to 25%.

What you will do

• Scope process optimization opportunities with customers, including objectives, constraints, and business value.
• Lead technical delivery, plan modeling work, and manage relationships with customer engineering teams.
• Analyze plant time-series data and build AI models, including soft sensors, process response models, and closed-loop optimizers.
• Evaluate whether model relationships reflect real process behavior and explain deviations from first principles.
• Commission models on site, train operators and engineers, and monitor performance through customer sign-off and after go-live.
• Support plant data connections, tag configuration, control-system integration, documentation, automation, and feedback to Product and R&D.

Requirements

• 4+ years of engineering experience in refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, NGL, or another continuous-process industry.
• BSc in Chemical Engineering, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Process engineering or process control background with knowledge of APC, gains, constraints, and objective functions.
• Hands-on experience analyzing and visualizing plant time-series data and drawing sound conclusions.
• Client-facing or operations-support experience with strong communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States and travel to client sites up to 25%; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Operating plant experience as a unit process engineer, control engineer, or operations-support engineer.
• Planning and economics experience, including refinery LP models.
• Experience with APC, real-time optimization, project implementations, or customer-facing industrial consulting.
• Scripting or data science experience, such as Python, and exposure to DCS, process historians, or OPC.
• Experience applying AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics to industrial processes.
