STRIDE – Advanced Specialist HPC Computational Engineer

Location: Onsite presence required 3–5 days per week according to business needs, with flexible working where compatible with the role.

Salary: £57,117, inclusive of a £5,800 specialist allowance.

What you will do

• Lead modelling, simulation, and uncertainty quantification activities for fusion research and engineering programmes.
• Develop and apply numerical methods and algorithms for advanced computational challenges.
• Design, develop, test, maintain, and review scientific software.
• Evaluate, deploy, and optimise emerging computing architectures and technologies.
• Develop computational approaches supporting digital twins of current and future fusion systems.
• Coordinate research collaborations, funding proposals, technical projects, and delivery by small technical teams.

Requirements

• Doctorate in a computational, mathematical, or physical science discipline, with a strong publication record, significant software contributions, or equivalent commercial or research experience.
• Experience leading technical projects, research activities, or software development teams.
• Significant software development experience in C++, Fortran, C, Rust, Julia, R, or Swift Parallel Scripting.
• Strong expertise in computational engineering, numerical analysis, and scientific computing.
• Significant experience with high-performance computing systems and UNIX environments, including command-line tools.
• Experience delivering computational research or engineering solutions through software development, modelling, and simulation.
