TL;DR
Immigration Legal Intern (Immigration Law): Supporting attorneys and DOJ Accredited Representatives with client intake, immigration applications, petitions, and case files in a Denver legal program with an accent on asylum services, humanitarian visas, and refugee support. Focus on conducting legal research, drafting immigration-court motions under supervision, coordinating clients and interpreters, and maintaining accurate case records.

Location: Denver, Colorado, USA; minimum commitment of 25 hours per week during IRC office hours

What you will do

  • Support attorneys and DOJ Accredited Representatives with client intake, enrollment, and needs assessments.
  • Help clients complete immigration applications and petitions for humanitarian visas, asylum, family reunification, employment authorization, adjustment of status, naturalization, and other benefits.
  • Conduct legal research and draft motions for submission to immigration court under attorney or DOJ Accredited Representative supervision.
  • Coordinate appointments with clients, interpreters, and pro bono attorneys.
  • Maintain accurate physical and electronic case files, detailed case notes, and timely data entry.
  • Assist with client workshops, Know Your Rights presentations, legal trainings, and community outreach.

Requirements

  • Current law student or recent graduate with an interest in or experience with immigration law.
  • Available for at least 25 hours per week during IRC office hours.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure while managing multiple tasks and competing deadlines.
  • Strong intercultural communication skills and the ability to work across language barriers.
  • Effective English communication skills required.
  • Confidential handling of sensitive client information, computer literacy, attention to detail, and strong organization.

Nice to have

  • Fluency in Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Pashto, Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, French, or Spanish.
