Data Engineer / Enterprise Telemetry & Data Pipeline SME

What you will do

• Own enterprise telemetry collection, ingestion, transformation, normalization, routing, and delivery architectures for Air Force Intelligence Community missions.
• Design and optimize data flows from endpoints, servers, applications, network devices, security platforms, and cloud services into Elastic, Splunk, and other authorized analytics platforms.
• Engineer and troubleshoot Cribl Stream and Cribl Edge pipelines, including sources, destinations, routes, parsing, filtering, enrichment, buffering, replay, and normalization.
• Build resilient, observable pipelines with queueing, retry, failover, recovery, throughput monitoring, data-quality controls, and performance analysis.
• Develop Python automation, infrastructure as code, configuration management, CI/CD, and DevSecOps workflows using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, and Git.
• Lead root-cause analysis, architecture planning, technical documentation, modernization, integration, and enterprise scaling efforts across network, cloud, cybersecurity, systems, Elastic, Splunk, and DevSecOps teams.

Requirements

• Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required.
• Onsite work at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, is required.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in data engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, systems engineering, software engineering, observability engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, operating, or optimizing large-scale production ingestion, logging, telemetry, event-streaming, or observability pipelines.
• Production experience with Elastic ingestion technologies, Cribl Stream or Cribl Edge, Splunk ingestion, AWS data-processing architectures, Python, Linux, networking, Git, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Must meet the IAT II 8570 certification requirement in lieu of the defined 8140.2 work role and demonstrate strong security, documentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills.

Nice to have

• Experience operating Elastic, Splunk, and Cribl together in an enterprise telemetry architecture.
• Experience with Kafka, Amazon MSK, Kinesis, Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, ECS, CIM, OCSF, or similar technologies and standards.
• Experience with classified, disconnected, degraded, bandwidth-constrained, or globally distributed environments.
• Relevant AWS, Elastic, Splunk, Cribl, HashiCorp, Red Hat, Kubernetes, or cybersecurity certifications.
