Senior Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada; hybrid work mode.

What you will do

• Solve geoscience challenges using machine learning, generative AI, agentic AI, and large language models.
• Develop AI and machine learning algorithms and models using accepted best practices.
• Assess model performance and resilience, and deliver quality, user-friendly prototypes aligned with customer needs.
• Integrate algorithms into prototypes and products and demonstrate solutions to customers.
• Acquire data from multiple sources, assess data integrity and quality, and prepare training datasets through effective cleaning strategies.
• Analyse user challenges, workflows, and use cases; research emerging AI developments; present results and share knowledge with peers, stakeholders, and users.

Requirements

• BSc, MSc, or PhD in machine learning, data science, a quantitative science, mathematics, computer science, or a related specialty.
• 7+ years of research and development experience in machine learning, including deep learning and advanced techniques.
• Experience using large language models, LangChain, and LangGraph.
• Experience with complex orchestration of agentic solutions.
• Experience with cloud-based data solutions and programming tools such as Python and PyTorch.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, persistence in problem solving, enthusiasm for continual learning, and the ability to research new topics and learn quickly.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI models for imagery, GIS, or 3D data such as point clouds and meshes.
• Commercial software development experience.
• Experience with modern data plotting libraries such as D3 or Plotly.
