Applied AI Research Scientist (AI)

Location: Toronto, ON; hybrid work arrangement with 1–3 days per week on-site at Toronto-81 Bay and the remaining days remote. Candidates must be legally eligible to work at the specified location and may need a valid work or study permit.

What you will do

• Drive strategic direction as an individual contributor in collaboration with AI scientists, engineers, and product leaders.
• Develop, improve, and explore AI and Generative AI model capabilities.
• Work across the full research lifecycle, from collaboration with academic institutions to production systems.
• Apply advanced research in deep learning, NLP, predictive modeling, and related literature.
• Develop and implement large generative models and represent hirify.global in the AI research community.

Requirements

• Advanced interdisciplinary knowledge of deep learning, natural language processing, and big data.
• A track record of impactful projects and publications at top-tier venues such as NeurIPS, ICLR, or Nature.
• Knowledge of foundation model architecture, pretraining, post-training, and model efficiency.
• Hands-on research experience developing and evaluating deep learning models for sequential or structured data, including time series, event sequences, recommendation systems, or tabular datasets, or closely related experience in transformer-based sequence modeling and representation learning.
• Excellent coding skills and hands-on experience with large-scale model training using GPU acceleration.
• PhD in deep learning or a related discipline and 3+ years of related research experience, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to collaborate with researchers, engineers, product teams, and academic faculty.
• Strong critical thinking, data analysis, statistical analysis, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience building end-to-end solutions with Large Language Models.
• Experience using cloud platforms and Databricks.
