TL;DR
Senior Corporate Counsel - Environmental Litigation & Regulatory (Environmental Services): Managing environmental litigation, regulatory matters, toxic tort claims, investigations, and compliance advice for a large environmental services company with an accent on CERCLA/Superfund, RCRA, environmental statutes, insurance coverage, and risk mitigation. Focus on leading complex proceedings, coordinating internal and outside counsel, advising cross-functional teams, and developing practical strategies for litigation, regulatory, and remediation challenges.

Location: Phoenix, Arizona, USA; overnight travel outside Arizona may be required

What you will do

  • Manage environmental litigation and claims, including CERCLA/Superfund, toxic tort, property damage, negligence, nuisance, trespass, indemnity, and insurance coverage matters.
  • Advise cross-functional teams on environmental and regulatory compliance, disclosures, investigations, remediation, Superfund projects, transaction diligence, policies, and training.
  • Provide guidance on federal, state, and local environmental laws, including RCRA, CERCLA, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and landfill gas monitoring requirements.
  • Support risk management with environmental and pollution claims, insurance coverage interpretation, investigations, and resolutions.
  • Lead litigation and regulatory proceedings, including expert and witness preparation, depositions, hearings, trials, mediation, and regulatory meetings.
  • Manage legal budgets, litigation reserves, outside counsel, internal resources, reporting, and policy development.

Requirements

  • JD and an active license to practice law in good standing.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience as a practicing attorney; eight years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience with environmental litigation, regulatory matters, toxic tort claims, and complex legal analysis.
  • Experience in a large, multi-state corporate or legal environment; prior in-house counsel experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication, judgment, organization, collaboration, and decision-making skills, including experience advising clients in a unionized environment.
  • Availability for overnight business travel is required as needed.
