On Air Television Host/Digital Lifestyle Content Correspondent (Broadcast Media)

Location: Portsmouth, Virginia; regular on-site schedule required, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; no telecommuting. Occasional night and weekend shoots may be required.

Salary: $55,000–$60,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

• Host the daily one-hour lifestyle show “The Hampton Roads Show” and post-show production elements.
• Write and edit scripts, prepare interviews, research topics, and develop questions with the producer.
• Engage viewers, guests, and clients on broadcast, connected television, web, and social media platforms.
• Coordinate, shoot, and edit original content, including live videos, images, and web stories.
• Represent the show and WAVY at community events as an emcee or speaker.
• Assist guests and clients during show preparation and contribute to other WAVY-TV, FOX43, The CW Hampton Roads, and WAVY+ programs.

Requirements

• Ability to work on site on a regular schedule is required.
• Strong hosting, interviewing, creative writing, and audience-engagement skills.
• Three years of on-air lifestyle, interviewing, or hosting experience is preferred.
• Experience writing for the web in AP style and managing social media posts.
• Ability to coordinate, shoot, and edit content independently.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent education and work experience; a hosting demo reel link is required with the application.
