TL;DR
Public Benefit Specialist (Healthcare): Interviews uninsured and under-insured patients, determines Medicaid or financial assistance eligibility, and manages benefit applications with an accent on accurate submissions, patient documentation, and timely billing updates. Focus on coordinating with Medicaid caseworkers, maintaining patient accounting records, and applying revenue cycle and insurance knowledge to complex financial assistance cases.

Location: On-site at Bon Secours - St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Virginia; limited to individuals residing and authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $18.65–$20.50 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

  • Review uninsured and under-insured patient cases for Medicaid and financial assistance eligibility.
  • Coordinate applications and communicate with patients to obtain required documentation.
  • Track submitted applications through determination and update insurance information.
  • Support timely billing and account adjustment processing.
  • Document actions and communications in patient accounting systems.
  • Collaborate with Medicaid caseworkers and revenue cycle departments.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of healthcare experience involving patient interactions about hospital financial matters.
  • High school diploma or GED; relevant post-secondary education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Understanding of revenue cycle processes, including admissions, billing, payments, and denials.
  • Knowledge of health insurance processes, authorizations, benefits verification, medical terminology, or procedure codes.
  • Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Complete the CRCR certification within nine months of hire; certification is company-paid.

Nice to have

  • Patient Access experience with managed care or insurance.
  • Call center experience.
  • Openness to using AI and emerging technology to improve processes and patient experiences.
