Pediatric Dental Assistant III

Location: On-site in Dallas, Texas, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Salary: $21.51 per hour minimum, based on qualifications.

Texas A&M University Health Science Center’s College of Dentistry provides oral health sciences education, research, specialized patient care, and continuing dental education.

What you will do

• Prepare pediatric patients and treatment rooms for scheduled dental appointments.
• Provide chairside assistance to graduate students during examinations and treatments using four-handed dentistry techniques.
• Monitor sedated patients and respond to clinical inquiries that do not require a dentist’s advice.
• Disinfect and sterilize operatories, instruments, and equipment in accordance with OSHA and local procedures.
• Operate dental radiographic equipment and assist with intraoral radiographs and oral photography.
• Prepare and mix dental materials according to manufacturer guidelines or dentist instructions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Four years of experience as a registered dental assistant in a private practice, clinic, or dental training program.
• Current CPR certification and Registered Dental Assistant certification required.
• Knowledge of dental instruments, materials, terminology, procedures, infection control, and aseptic techniques.
• Ability to operate dental radiographic equipment, multitask, follow instructions, and work cooperatively.
• Strong verbal, written, listening, organizational, and patient communication skills.

Nice to have

• Graduation from a dental assisting program or completion of a dental assisting certificate.
• Experience in a dental clinic, especially pediatric dentistry.
• Comfort working with children of all ages and communicating with children and parents.
• Positive, reliable, organized, and detail-oriented approach with strong teamwork skills.
