TL;DR
Thermal-Mechanical Engineer (Nuclear): Designing pressure-boundary hardware for a micro nuclear power plant based on pressurized water reactor technology with an accent on heat exchangers, piping, pressure vessels, and primary-loop systems. Focus on performing thermal and structural analyses, translating performance requirements into manufacturable hardware, and validating designs under high-temperature, high-pressure, and cyclic loading.

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; on-site

Company

hirify.global is a US technology company developing and deploying next-generation micro nuclear power plants based on proven pressurized water reactor technology.

What you will do

  • Lead the conceptual design, analysis, and execution of thermal-mechanical components and systems for an advanced nuclear power plant.
  • Design heat exchangers, piping networks, fluid storage tanks, pressure vessels, and primary-loop equipment.
  • Perform thermal stress, fatigue, thermal expansion, and structural analyses under pressure, temperature, and cyclic loading.
  • Translate thermal performance requirements into manufacturable and deployable hardware from concept through design verification.
  • Collaborate with structural, analysis, and multidisciplinary engineering teams on plant-level integration and design validation.
  • Support material selection, tolerancing, and design-for-manufacturing decisions for high-temperature and high-pressure components.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on industry experience designing components under thermal and mechanical loading.
  • Experience designing thermal-system components for power plants, nuclear systems, or complex industrial systems.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or PTC Creo.
  • Proficiency with analysis tools such as ANSYS Mechanical, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Working knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, fatigue, fracture, thermal expansion, and pressure-boundary design.

Nice to have

  • Experience with pressure-vessel or piping design codes, including ASME BPVC Section III/VIII or B31.1/B31.3.

Culture & Benefits

  • On-site work in Austin, Texas.
  • Autonomous project ownership from concept through design verification.
  • Hands-on, practical approach focused on manufacturable and deployable designs.
  • Collaborative, cross-functional startup environment emphasizing speed, ingenuity, and accountability.
