TL;DR
Technician (Fusion Hardware): Building, assembling, modifying, and testing prototypes, custom tooling, magnets, and mechanical assemblies for next-generation stellarator fusion hardware with an accent on first-of-a-kind fabrication, development trials, and buildability feedback. Focus on interpreting engineering drawings, investigating unexpected behaviour, documenting as-built configurations, and transferring proven prototypes into repeatable manufacturing.

Location: Munich, Germany; onsite

Company

hirify.global is a European fusion company developing stellarator-based hardware and infrastructure for a commercial fusion power plant.

What you will do

  • Build, assemble, modify, and test prototypes, experimental hardware, custom tooling, development rigs, magnets, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Translate engineering drawings, 3D models, and sketches into practical hardware while clarifying requirements with engineers.
  • Fabricate and adapt components using fitting, cutting, drilling, soldering, bonding, and assembly techniques.
  • Run development trials involving winding, joining, insulation, impregnation, instrumentation, rig commissioning, and measurement.
  • Identify buildability issues, investigate unexpected behaviour, and support build-test-modify iterations with engineering teams.
  • Document as-built configurations and transfer proven prototypes, tooling, work instructions, and assembly methods into manufacturing or routine testing.

Requirements

  • Technical apprenticeship, vocational qualification, or equivalent hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, or related engineering work.
  • Hands-on experience building, modifying, and troubleshooting mechanical or electromechanical hardware in a workshop, laboratory, development, or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and 3D models, with working familiarity with GD&T and practical measurement.
  • Confident hand-tool, workshop, fabrication, and assembly skills, with sound judgement around technical uncertainty and safety.
  • Ability to organise work, investigate incomplete information, communicate blockers, and document configurations and findings clearly.
  • Working English required for technical discussions, drawings, instructions, and build records.

Nice to have

  • Manual or CNC machining, sheet-metal work, welding, brazing, or additive manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with CATIA, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar CAD tools.
  • Experience with instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition, electrical wiring, vacuum, cryogenics, or superconducting hardware.
  • Experience with composites, resins, vacuum bagging, insulation, or impregnation.
  • German language skills and experience transferring prototypes into repeatable manufacturing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on complex engineering challenges related to commercial stellarator fusion technology.
  • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations disciplines.
  • Join a growing team working across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford.
  • Contribute to the development of clean fusion energy infrastructure.

Hiring process

  • Recruiter interview lasting 30–60 minutes.
  • Technical screening lasting 30 minutes, followed by a technical panel with three 60-minute sessions.
  • CEO call lasting 30 minutes.
