Avionics Test Engineer (Hardware)

Location: Los Angeles, California, USA; in-person work at the Playa Vista office.

What you will do

• Design, build, integrate, and maintain bus-level and component-level avionics test racks.
• Develop and maintain FlatSats, avionics testbeds, electrical interfaces, emulators, EGSE, harnesses, and supporting infrastructure.
• Lead hardware integration, harnessing, fixturing, rack integration, and mechanical/electrical interface validation.
• Define test architectures and strategies with electrical, mechanical, RF, software, and systems engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot flight hardware and integrated test setups using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, DAQ systems, VNAs, and vector signal analyzers or generators.
• Investigate failures and anomalies, determine root causes, support qualification and spacecraft-level testing, and improve test coverage, reliability, repeatability, and throughput.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in aerospace hardware, avionics, electronics, or integrated hardware testing.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation, hardware bring-up, integrated electrical systems, and complex test setups.
• Strong understanding of hardware integration, verification, and validation workflows, with the ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, interface control documents, and technical requirements.
• Strong problem-solving, independent issue resolution, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. Person or obtain the required U.S. export authorizations under ITAR and EAR requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience testing spacecraft, launch vehicles, avionics, or other flight electronics.
• Experience with harness design and fabrication, test fixturing, environmental or vibration testing, and component acceptance or qualification testing.
• Experience in aerospace production, manufacturing, or integration environments, or with PCB and prototype electronics development.
• Experience with sensor functional testing, avionics channelization, electrical interface validation, or embedded interfaces such as CAN, RS-422/485, UART, SPI, I2C, and Ethernet.
• Basic Python or scripting experience for test support, data collection, and automation.
