Lead Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within Quebec, Ontario, or Nova Scotia, Canada

What you will do

• Manage, coach, and develop a data engineer while setting standards for code review, testing, documentation, and on-call practices.
• Own the Databricks lakehouse, including ingestion, modelling, data quality, cost management, and operational reliability.
• Build and operate pipelines from production systems, Salesforce, NetSuite, and third-party sources.
• Support finance processes including month-end close, revenue calculations, vendor cost reconciliation, audits, and year-end reporting.
• Build customer-facing data products such as data connectors and embedded reporting, and support fraud and risk data features.
• Create governed data foundations for AI tools and agents while partnering with InfoSec and Compliance on privacy, access, retention, and audit requirements.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in data engineering with ownership of a production data platform.
• Experience managing, mentoring, or leading engineers on a small team.
• Deep experience with Databricks or a similar lakehouse, SQL, and Python.
• Experience building reliable pipelines from operational databases and SaaS systems.
• Experience supporting finance or accounting processes with data.
• Hands-on use of AI tools in engineering work and the autonomy to act as the most senior data professional in the company.

Nice to have

• Formal people-management experience and interest in growing a data team.
• Fintech, payments, or other regulated-industry experience.
• Experience with customer-facing data products, embedded analytics, or data sharing.
• Experience building context layers, retrieval systems, or data pipelines for AI agents.
• Practical data governance and privacy experience, including PII handling, access control, and GDPR.
