TL;DR
Lead Data Engineer (Fintech): Building semantic and MCP layers, governed data models, and self-service data infrastructure for an AI-enabled mortgage broker with an accent on data quality, regulatory auditability, and stakeholder access. Focus on designing tested transformations, implementing automated quality checks, and leading modern data architecture in an FCA-regulated environment.
Location: Fully remote. Remote-first work allows working anywhere in the world for up to 22 days per year.

What you will do
- Lead the development of the semantic layer and MCP layer.
- Design and implement transformations from raw data into structured, governed data models.
- Define business metrics with stakeholders and establish clear data definitions.
- Implement automated data-quality checks and support internal data dashboards.
- Drive data governance and accurate audit trails in an FCA-regulated environment.
- Provide technical leadership, promote modern technologies, and mentor less senior engineers.
Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL, BigQuery, dbt, and Python.
- Experience with data pipelines, modern ingestion and transformation patterns, and modern data architecture.
- Experience building semantic layers and working with MCP.
- Experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code and analytics agents.
- Strong engineering fundamentals, including maintainable tested code, Agile methodologies, and Git.
- Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Fintech or regulated financial services experience.
- Experience with AI/LLM infrastructure, including AI model evaluations.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and real-time data infrastructure.
