TL;DR
Cyber System Security Engineer (CSSE) (Space Systems) (Cybersecurity/RMF): Engineering cybersecurity across the life cycle of defense-critical space systems and supporting Authority to Operate processes with an accent on RMF authorization, security architecture, vulnerability management, and DoD compliance. Focus on developing eMASS authorization packages, translating mission and cybersecurity requirements into system artifacts, managing STIG remediation and POA&Ms, and advising program leadership on technical risk.

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; onsite

Salary: $150,000–$185,000 per year

What you will do

  • Apply systems security engineering and Risk Management Framework principles throughout the system life cycle.
  • Translate cybersecurity, privacy, cryptographic, supply-chain, and compliance requirements into architecture, specifications, verification criteria, and test procedures.
  • Develop and maintain eMASS authorization packages, including SSPs, SAPs, SARs, SCTMs, POA&Ms, and continuous-monitoring evidence.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, STIG and SRG compliance validation, remediation tracking, and security-risk analysis across Windows, Linux, networks, applications, databases, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Support program protection, supply-chain risk management, cryptography, PKI, configuration control, audit review, and incident response for classified and sensitive systems.
  • Advise program managers, engineers, ISSMs, ISSOs, system owners, and authorizing officials on authorization risks, control deficiencies, and remediation decisions.

Requirements

  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance required.
  • Must meet and maintain applicable DoD 8140 and DCWF qualification requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field; relevant DoD experience may substitute.
  • At least 5 years of direct RMF implementation experience under DoDI 8510.01, NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53, and applicable DoD authorization processes.
  • Experience with eMASS, ACAS/Nessus, SCC, DISA STIGs, SRGs, vulnerability management, POA&Ms, and compliance reporting.
  • Working knowledge of FISMA, the Clinger-Cohen Act, DoD and DAF governance, secure architecture, encryption, PKI, access control, logging, and security testing.

Nice to have

  • Top Secret or TS/SCI eligibility or an active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • CISSP, CISM, CGRC/CAP, Security+ CE, or another credential aligned with the assigned DoD 8140 work role.
  • Experience with DAF, DoD, Intelligence Community, Program Protection Plans, supply-chain risk, anti-tamper, CMMC, FedRAMP, Zero Trust, DevSecOps, or container security.
  • Experience with SCIF operations, NISPOM, ICD 503, Cross Domain Solutions, or classified-system authorization.
