Principal Engineer - Data Center

Location: Boise, Idaho, or Pullman, Washington, United States. Travel is required as needed for business.

Salary: $209,000–$270,000 annually.

What you will do

• Lead discovery, evaluation, and advancement of data center technologies, applications, market opportunities, and growth initiatives.
• Analyze markets, competitors, customer feedback, industry trends, and emerging technologies to identify unmet needs and differentiated value propositions.
• Build and manage a strategic opportunity pipeline connecting customer needs, market dynamics, and SEL innovation initiatives.
• Translate market opportunities into product requirements and development initiatives with Product Management, Sales, Engineering Services, R&D, and subject matter experts.
• Influence product strategy, portfolio planning, technology roadmaps, business cases, positioning, and technical narratives.
• Drive customer adoption and market expansion while educating internal and external audiences through presentations, training, technical content, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering or an applicable discipline.
• 15+ years of experience and working knowledge of electric power systems or equivalent transferable industry experience.
• Recognized leadership and expertise in data centers and applicable industry practices.
• Expertise in data center protection, automation, monitoring, metering, cybersecurity, communications, and software solutions, with knowledge of adjacent technologies and market segments.
• Strong technical training, writing, speaking, documentation, customer service, teamwork, and mentoring skills.
• Satisfactory background check and negative drug test results are required.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in an engineering discipline.
• Authorship and presentation of technical papers.
• US patents related to SEL’s mission, including major inventor contributions.
• Registered Professional Engineer credentials.
