MUMPS Engineer (VistA)

Location: Rockville, Maryland, or remote within the continental United States (CONUS). Up to 10% travel.

Salary: $123,000–$132,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain MUMPS routines and FileMan data dictionary updates for VistA supply chain and logistics modules.
• Build, validate, and deploy KIDS patches and data corrections while resolving Tier 3 production incidents.
• Develop secure, non-blocking integrations using REST, JSON, RPC, and HL7 with platforms such as Nuvolo and Oracle Health EHR.
• Translate undocumented legacy logic into modernization blueprints, support data migration, and execute system decommissioning cutovers.
• Validate AI-generated MUMPS code, regression tests, and impact analyses through human-in-the-loop review.
• Participate in Agile delivery, mentor MUMPS/VistA developers, conduct technical interviews, and support proposals and internal knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 8+ years of MUMPS programming in VistA environments, including at least 3 years supporting VA supply chain and logistics modules such as IFCAP, GIP, and AEMS/MERS.
• Experience designing FileMan data dictionaries and developing and releasing KIDS patches with release notes and environment checks.
• Experience integrating VistA with external platforms using RPC Broker, HL7 messaging, secure file-based extracts, REST, and JSON.
• Knowledge of legacy coexistence and decommissioning with systems such as Nuvolo, iFAMS, and Oracle Health EHR.
• Experience with Agile delivery, Jira, GitHub, VA Handbook 6500 secure coding practices, SQL, and Databricks.
• Must be able to obtain a VA PIV credential and pass a Tier 2 / Moderate Risk Background Investigation. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent additional VistA/MUMPS experience is required.

• Experience validating AI-generated code and using AI-assisted SDLC tooling.
• VA VistA FileMan and Kernel training or equivalent documented VistA technical training.
• SAFe Practitioner or SAFe Agilist certification.
