Principal Software Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Location: Ottawa March Road, Canada

Annual base salary: CAD 114,400–183,000

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deliver control software and firmware for complex electronic products.
• Own complete product software designs, including firmware, microcode, drivers, operating systems, and upper-level control applications.
• Lead product development from system bring-up and diagnostics through runtime control, volume production, and product sustainability.
• Debug and test software using unit-testing and system-level testing techniques.
• Support customer trials, resolve field issues, and ensure ongoing product sustainability.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary engineering teams and external partner engineering teams on joint development programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and 12+ years of related experience.
• Background developing embedded system software for large-scale, complex multiprocessor architectures.
• In-depth understanding of complete system software, from system bring-up and diagnostics to runtime control operating systems and support applications.
• Expertise with debugging tools and software testing techniques.
• Experience owning complex products across the full lifecycle, from inception to volume production.
• Ability to collaborate with support functions including sales, marketing, purchasing, manufacturing, customer support, compliance, safety, and sustainability.
